I've been wanting to make this dress in real life for a while now, but I don't think I will ever be a good enough seamstress. XD This dress was designed by the fashion designer Lady Duff Gordon in 1916, and is designed for wearing to dinner. I think there are a few of these dresses still around today, but the one I based my version on is located in the Philadelphia Museum of Art. Lucile Duff-Gordon was an innovative fashion designer who was one of the first to use live models for her clothing and also invented a precursor to the fashion show. She's also famous (notorious?) for hogging her own lifeboat as she escaped from the Titanic. I find her dresses innovative and unusual, and think that most of them are still pretty classy today.
